HOME

The Uganda Mushroom Growers Association is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) formed by mushroom farmers especially women. These farmers started the mushroom farming in the peri-urban areas of the capital city of Uganda - Kampala, targeting the urban population market. Much of the mushroom produced is sold in the markets around the city and some consumed at home to supplement the domestic diet.

ABOUT US

After the experience of about five years in the field they found it viable to form an organisation to foster mushroom growing and marketing hence Uganda Mushroom Growers Association to tap the regional and International Markets.

WHY OYSTER

The Uganda Mushroom Growers Association has its targeted aims and objectives which it holds dear and strives to achieve. It has over 200 registered and non registered members.

CONTACT US

The Association does not cease to have challenges some of which have been successful addressed. However the majority are still major problems to mushroom farmers in Uganda which need to be addressed if the association is to grow even further.

LINKS

Worldwide, there is a vast array of edible Oyster mushroom species, and as there are many varieties grown, their colors will vary, ranging from white to creamy tan, pale yellow to shades of a pinky salmon hue (which should be used uncooked or they lose their beautiful color ) or even pale gray to dark brownish-gray. The mushroom is sometimes stalk less, or may have a descending short or off-center stem, that may be hairy or downy. The gills are white to yellowish cream and are widely spaced, with nonserrate edges.
